offal literary salon ii with special guest joseph earl thomas [UPSTAIRS]
the theme for the july salon is “nightmares & dream logic in the apocalycene”. apocalycene is the term i am using to identify the moment of time we are in, perpendicular to the holocene, inside the anthropocene, and shivering from the grasp of the cthulhucene, where the phenomena and noumena of apocalypse over-saturates cultural discourse. a nightmaring and dreaming logic of end times requires a nightmaring and dreaming logic from a cosmic body and not a tripartite soul. when the androids dream of electric sheep, do we, suspended between something human and post, dream from what is artificial in our bodies? our second offal salon will feature special guest visionary Joseph Earl Thomas, as well as featured readings from Meredith Graves, J.M. Hamadi, Tia Partsch, and Sam Farhi. this salon will feature both readings and a q&a. the offal literary salon is a reading series for the freaks, by the freaks. each month will have a different theme curated around the special guest reader, but the tenets remains the same: ***Logos: Écriture monstre:*** inspired by Cixous’écriture féminine, écriture monstre is writing led by the monstrosity of the flesh, inked in the margins of a body with too many organs, or, writing not as viktor frankenstein suturing the monstrous flesh together; rather, as his creature unsuturing disparate body parts & looking at what’s grey & pink inside. shoving fingers in the wound. knowing itself. ***Ethos: Nonopticonism:*** the realization that actually no one is watching you, or certainly less people than you think are watching you, and those who are watching you are watching you only a little bit sometimes, and so maybe just don’t take yourself quite as seriously. maybe be more naked. nonopticonism, the antidote to the panoptification of self, advocates for freedom from the petty narcissisms of anthropocentrism where, just because we’re shouting into the void, we’re convinced the void is listening and doesn’t have it’s void equivalent of noise cancelling headphones on. ***Pathos: Lacanpunk:*** lacanpunk is concerned with the eroticization of lack, the silhouette of the Real, and the open mouth of Autre. ***Apotheosis: Qualiacore:*** a heterodox framework of literary craft interrogating through the body’s organs the phenomena of experience; in other words, it is possible to describe something from within it, that the phallologocentric prison of language is not a prison but a spiralling staircase between heaven and hell. the body as an interdimensional trellis of experience. the salon’s date is july 24th, from 6:30 - 8:00 PM. arrive early, stay late. \- Public Records aims to provide a safer space.
